Training/3D Virtual Tours (Matterport)

Lesson 6

Navigating Tricky Areas

Mirrors, stairs, narrow halls, and outdoor transitions without glitches.

Doorways, stairs, and reflective surfaces need special handling to avoid glitches in your final tour.

A Doorways

Never put the tripod directly in the middle of a door frame. Take one scan about 2 feet before the door, and the next scan 2 feet after you walk through it.

B Stairs

Start at the bottom. Take a scan at the foot of the stairs, move the tripod up 3–4 steps, scan again, and repeat until you reach the top. Keep a clear line of sight to the previous step!

C Marking Mirrors & Windows (CRITICAL)

360 cameras get very confused by reflections and direct sunlight. Whenever you scan a bathroom or a room with huge floor-to-ceiling windows, tap the "Mark Features" tool in the Matterport app and draw a line over the mirror/window. This tells the software, "This is a reflection, not a secret room."

⚠️Mirrors are the #1 cause of glitchy tours. Always mark them — it only takes a few seconds and saves you from having to rescan the entire room.
